One of the biggest mindset shifts I've had to make after divorce is realizing that many of us were trying to live up to an impossible standard. June Cleaver was a television character and a cultural archetype—not a complete picture of every woman who lived in the 1950s. But many of us in the modern tradwife movement were taught to do even more. Keep a spotless home. Cook from scratch. Raise a large family. Homeschool to a high standard. Support your husband's calling. Be endlessly available. And if life required it, somehow also build a business or start making a living. No wonder so many divorced former tradwives feel exhausted, discouraged, or like they somehow failed. The problem wasn't always that we weren't trying hard enough. Sometimes the expectations themselves were unrealistic. As I've rebuilt my life after divorce and started my own business, I've had to learn to ask different questions: What do I actually have the capacity for? What season of life am I in? What can I simplify without guilt? Sometimes that means paper plates. Sometimes it means letting the robot vacuum do the work. Sometimes it means accepting that
