🇨🇩 Tragic news for the Democratic Republic of Congo. Congolese cyclist Miguel Masaïsaï, known for carrying a message of peace across Africa by bicycle, died Friday, September 18, in a road accident in northern Congo-Brazzaville. The accident occurred near Kabos, on the route toward the Cameroon border. According to Radio Okapi, Miguel had experienced a problem with his bicycle and sought transportation in a vehicle so he could reach a place where it could be repaired and continue his journey. The vehicle was later involved in a collision with a truck carrying logs. Four people, including Miguel, were killed. Miguel had departed Goma on May 1 as part of his “Pedals for Peace” initiative, an ambitious journey of nearly 14,000 kilometers with Rabat, Morocco, as his final destination. His mission was bigger than cycling: he was using the journey to promote peace, unity and social cohesion, particularly for communities affected by years of conflict in eastern DRC. He had already crossed the Democratic Republic of Congo from east to west, arriving in Kinshasa on August 5 after more than 6,500 kilometers on the road. On September 6, he crossed the Congo River into Brazzaville and continued north toward Cameroon as he pursued his journey to Morocco. His journey ended before he could reach Rabat, but the message behind it remains: peace, unity and hope for the people of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Our sincere condolences to Miguel Masaïsaï’s family, friends, the Congolese cycling community and everyone who followed and supported his journey. Rest in peace, Miguel Masaïsaï. #AfriVisionMedia #MiguelMasaisai #PedalsForPeace #DRC #Congo
