I love my DWHR device. Makes the water heater capacity nearly double.

I cant imagine it would pay for itself. I only shower once a day and my shower temp might be 100 degrees. by the time it gets to the stack the temp might be 80 degrees at best. then it would need to transfer through to the copper. my guess would be the temp getting back to the water heater would be 70 degrees. 15 minute shower.

That wouldn’t work on a storage tank system. That would be ideal for Insta hot. Because you’re drawing cold water in and you want to preheat that water so it doesn’t take as much power to heat it. That’s how you’d use that. On a storage tank system, it would cool the water down. Because it’s colder than the hot water coming into the faucet.

Why not coil the cold intake around the hot supply line coming out of the water heater instead of the waste line so there is no worry of cross contamination? Also it would capture more heat loss.

Only way it would half work is it it were on a horizontal run not a vertical run.

Energy confuses everybody. They don’t understand what is a mandate and what is the requirement if you install it. That’s the biggest issue I see with a lot of homeowners wanted to do things and it’s actually what stops them from doing a lot of things. That’s why I don’t know I’m out on my inspections and they start asking me questions. I take my time to help them. We are there to help these people because they don’t know. But if you don’t know what you’re talking about don’t talk About. Make sure you do your research and have at least fair knowledge of what you’re talking about. It’s just like the shower pan liner that Home Depot is carrying now. N Nordic is why I think it is, but I can’t remember. But I read the listing for it and it started to decompose after seven years. So I’ve been trying to inform all the contractors that have to warranty the shower for 10 years.
