I was a CH-46E crewchief back in the 80’s. When my squadron was deployed I worked seven days a week, at least twelve hours a day without complaint.

I was a part of the wing. HMT-303 It was a training squadron. Loved when we'd get a grunt. It was a bit shocking for them.

Try running a First class PFT when you only PT when you run a PFT twice a year. No time for PT.

I agree with you 110%. Why? Great question!. I was one of many Marines that made the transition from Infantry to aviation when my MOS was closed after the Gulf War, due to force reduction period. The mission and long hour work are as you've described, but the Marine Corps spirit is there also. Knowing both fields, helped me appreciate everything i learned, and educated Marines when the time came during comebts such as the one made to you. Semper Fi, Warhammers

Most people (and this includes Marines) don't realize that there are more Marines in Marine Aviation than there are in Infantry and Artillary combined. If the Marine Avation wings were a stand alone air force, it would be the 5th largest air force in the world.

Airwing is insanely and brutally overworked around the clock for hours on end and are at the mercy of anal retentive micromanaging power tripping nimbys due to the nature and responsibilities that come with that MOS ie maintanance and equipment. I was in a Victor unit Kilo 3/1 and did a lot of workups around helos and had a lot of airwing buddies that had no life other than neverending shop hours and logs.

My first year i worked 12 on 12 off every day to include weekends for a deployment we were preparing for. Never ended up going and we ended up doing a UDP. All that work for nothing lol. Best example I got but 12s is a regular thing, 10s is normal. Also pulled shifts over 24 hours myself when I was the only qualification available due to leave blocks. Hours are only getting worse too since we support both Navy and Marine training requirements with the F35.
