The runner was just never ending! I was gasping for air!

Happy girl Rachel :
I also didn’t enjoy it! I did the GNR last year and foolishly thought it was going to be easier. The tunnel, cobbles and the sign saying 800m to go … this was the longest stretch ever! Xx

Very similar experience - the tunnel, cobblestones & the “empty section” after Tower Bridge were the worst bits for me too. Overall I think it was just the heat which made it seem so much harder! But if we can do it in that heat we can certainly do it in more comfortable conditions 🙌

Omg I’ve had exactly the same experience!! After passing by that 20km marker, I thought surely I only have 500m left, I can do this! Then saw the 800m left sign and just gave up and started walking haha 🥲 It was also my first half and it was so hard, especially with the heat. I wanted to give up so many times 😭 but here I am two days later, thinking of which half to do next year 🤣

I was sick for over a week beforehand, went out far too fast and could barely speak I felt so crap afterwards…..the last three miles having been a stumble/walk combo. Apart from that I enjoyed my first. I got my target time by 1 second though so silver lining 😂 ..but as you said I took my learnings and my second went way better.

2nd one ever, hated it so much. From 13km I was finished from the heat. Worst half marathon time I’ve ever got, I did my first one better and I was so injured I had to defer London. Will never do that course again. Fortunate I had the opportunity but the big half will never see me again.

Girl you did that👏🏾. I was out on my road cheering people on from 9am and it was ghost town. Literally 3 of us clapping and saying well done including 2 NB staff😅 A real hard grind honestly. Well done

I was going to do it as my first half too but these were my exact concerns and why I pulled out. I knew the heat would kill me, I saw the spectator zones and the tunnel put me off BIG time. I chose royal parks in Oct instead. But kudos to you still YOU FINISHED!!! And did all that training so well done ❤️

I think it is slightly to do with the race 😆 I've done 15 half marathons, and I found it one of the toughest I've done!
I definitely think it should be at a different time for year, it's sooo warm early Sep.
Well done to you for doing it!

The 20K marker was definitely early - everyone's 20K splits, including the Elites - were significantly slower than the previous ones. Someone on reddit figured out it was probably about 300m too soon

I had this for Manchester marathon last year!! my first race ever and a full marathon and I was so sick the whole time 😭 poorly planned my nutrition the day before and the day of and truly hated every second of it!! I have signed up for next year though because I want a better experience of it 😂

You should do the London landmark half marathon. One of the best for on route entertainment

Cobblestones are the worst. I haven’t done the Big Half but I have done London Landmarks and it actually wasn’t my favourite race at all. Good luck with the next one. 😊

it was my second one and same. i trained so hard for this and still after like 5km i gave up on 'racing' it. it was too hot!! the course was not easy at all either. i don't think I'll ever rec this race lol. but i wonder if I'm being too harsh i read the London marathon course is pretty similar?

I had the same experience, around the 17km mark in Rotherhithe I dropped off massively. The heat was something else though😭

Worst experience of my life🤣 I have endo and was ovulating on the day which is my worst time so I was in the worst pain and my stomach swelled up like a balloon and stayed like that and for like a week after
