@smalllakepod: Sugar House Park used to be a PRISON. And somehow that’s only the beginning of the story. Prison escapes, Mormon leaders behind bars, Joe Hill’s execution, dynamite, and eventually… one of Salt Lake’s most popular parks. I’m starting to make more long-form YouTube videos about the weird history and stories around Salt Lake and Utah that most people don’t know. If you want more of these, show this one some love and I’ll keep making them. #SaltLakeCity #Utah #UtahHistory #SugarHouse #SLC
Oooh now i’m interested to know if there are any spooky/haunted stories from Highland High

as a highland high school alumni there are rumors about there still being prison cells hidden in the basement along with a bomb shelter under the stage. also we had teacher/staff that went to highland as a student and then he became a teacher and continued to work there after retiring thought he has passed away a couple years ago

I grew up in Sugar House in the late 60s, 70s & 80s. It was such a great place. My dad worked for a while at Sterling Furniture. At Christmas, Santa sat in a little building in the middle of the 2100 South. Shopping, movies, the ice rink, the popcorn store. Now it looks completely different & has so much traffic.

The sugar house park prison was torn down in 1951 and HHS was built in 1956. So weird how close the construction was. Please do one on high schools in slc! West high, before it was west was built in 1890 and east high in 1914 and then highland

From what I’ve seen in photos the actual prison sat on the far north side, near 2100 s. The stone wall did not go around the entire property but a fairly small section around the buildings at house the cells.
