Keep taking at least a few bags with you for a few classes. Leave them out accessible if students want to grab them. Once they settle in and loosen up some more of them might join the bedazzled goggles club. Especially if any of the students that took them follow through and show up with their bedazzled goggles

Hey so I’m like… super old now. It’s been 15 years since I’ve been in a lab. But I’d pay for you to send me a gem baggie to bedazzle some goggles for my science obsessed kiddos. I know I could just buy the gems, but then I couldn’t tell them that a real scientist sent them.

I’ve found that it’s normally the juniors and seniors that get hyped for candy and stickers. They’ve seen far enough into the darkness to crave the nostalgia of their childhood.

I would’ve LOVED that in gen chem 1, it was so intimidating and having a prof/TA like that would’ve been so welcoming! i’m sure some people were maybe just shy :(

It would’ve taken me several weeks to not be shy about it. But I would’ve regretted not taking them for sure…social anxiety & autism & undiagnosed adhd going into the freshman college environment after I had a high school that allowed me to get through it having no idea meant those first weeks were a whole lot of having no idea what was up and down. Now, returning student who took gen chem in my 30’s and had my diagnosis…yea, I would’ve grabbed that bedazzle kit for sure. Executive dysfunction at home might not have let me actually do it but I would’ve appreciated the heck out of you!

A lot of them borrowed goggles from their friends! I got mine handed down, and gave them away immediately to the next person who needed goggles and a coat for the mandatory lab course
