He was assassinated in the most gruesome way, and I believe the reason it’s called lamumba is because after they killed him they threw him in acid. I will take that after the body dissolved the colour of the acid looked like hot cocoa. Just a theory.

ok if this was the modern day it would have been called that, but it was created and named way back and the name has stuck. Once you pick a name you can't change it I mean its an iconic name lumumba isn't a political figure when it comes to Christmas markets its hot chocolate with a shot in it, like it or not. get over it...

Patrice Lumumba that was his name and unfortunately also the name of the drink. Apparently the drink was invented in West Germany early 60's. For me is the first time hearing this since the drink does not exist in Portugal, France and UK only Germany, Austria, Netherlands and Denmark. An article from BBC says nobody knows the reason why they gave the name to this drink but certainly wasn't in a good way because Patrice Lumumba was not seen as a hero in the West because he turn to Soviet Union for help (after Europe, UN and USA refused to work with him) hence why Belgium and CIA (aka USA) killed him. So definitely the reason was definitely malicious and racist. Mind you Lumumba means "Gifted", "Talent" and "Capable" which makes it even more disrespectful!
