There’s a real reason for this: neuroscientists call it the Default Mode Network : the system that switches on when your mind isn’t focused on a goal. Research links an overactive default mode to rumination: replaying the past, obsessing over people and situations you can’t control. I lived that for years without knowing why. My brain had nothing real to hold onto, so it started looking for things to fix instead : usually things that weren’t even mine to fix. Then I gave it something to hold onto. Something I was actually passionate about. And that’s when I realized: I wasn’t waking up in survival mode anymore. I was actually living.
