@_midnight_rain17: Miu Natsha had ironed her white blouse three times. It was the same blouse she wore to every important interview — plain, a little too thin at the elbows now, but clean and professional. She had bought it for her university graduation three years ago and kept it folded in her closet since. She needed it today. Schuett Group Bangkok — 42nd floor, glass building, all cold air conditioning and quiet footsteps. Miu arrived at 8:12 AM, twenty minutes early, clutching a brown folder with her resume inside. Her hands were sweating. The receptionist didn't look up. "Name?" "Miu Natsha. Interview for Executive Assistant position, 8:30 with Ms. Schuett." The receptionist typed, then paused. "Ah. You're the last one. Go in, she's waiting." Miu's heart started beating too fast. The last one. That was never good. The CEO's office was huge — floor-to-ceiling windows, black desk, nothing personal except a single framed photo facing away from the door. And behind the desk, on a phone call, was Lena. Lena Schuett. In three years, she had changed. Her hair was longer, straight and sleek down her back. Her suit was black and sharp, white shirt unbuttoned at the throat. No tie. She looked like she owned every building on this street. She probably did. She hadn't seen Miu yet. She was speaking in low, calm Thai mixed with English, cold and professional. "...no, cancel the meeting with Valdez. I don't care what they offer. If they can't meet our compliance, they don't get our contract." Miu stood frozen in the doorway. Lena looked up. And stopped mid-sentence. For two seconds, the entire office went silent. Lena's grey eyes — that Miu had once known so well — went wide. Her hand tightened around her phone. "Miu?" she whispered, forgetting her call. Miu swallowed. "Hi, Lena." Lena quickly recovered. She ended her call with a sharp "I'll call you back," and stood up, smoothing her blazer. Her CEO mask slid back on, but her hands were shaking slightly. "Ms. Natsha," she said, voice suddenly formal. "Please. Sit." Miu sat, knees together, folder on her lap. She couldn't look at Lena directly. "Your resume says you worked at Valdez Corp for three years," Lena said, reading from a paper on her desk, even though Miu knew she already knew everything about it. Lena had forwarded her that job. "Junior EA to Operations Associate. Why did you leave?" "They didn't have room to grow," Miu said quietly. It was the professional answer. "And why Schuett Group?" Miu finally looked up. "Because you were hiring." Lena's jaw tightened. She stood up and walked to the window, hands in her pockets, back to Miu. "Do you think this is a good idea?" Lena asked, her voice low. "You working here. For me." "I think I'm qualified for the job," Miu said, trying to keep her voice steady. "My test scores were the highest in the EA pool, according to HR. And I know how you take your coffee." Lena turned around sharply. "How?" "Black. No sugar. Extra hot," Miu said. "You always made me get it that way in university. You still drink it the same way. I saw it on your desk." For a second, Lena's mask cracked. A small, pained smile. "You remember that." "I remember everything, Lena." The silence that followed was heavy. Three years of unanswered emails, one forwarded job offer, and a white blouse that still smelled like her old closet. Lena walked back to her desk and sat down. She picked up a pen, clicked it twice — a nervous habit Miu remembered. "HR has five other candidates," Lena said, all business again. "But... you start Monday. 7:40 AM. Don't be late, Ms. Natsha." Miu blinked. "Just like that?" "Just like that," Lena said. "Wherever I go, you go. That's in the job description for this role. You forgot already?" Continuation >> Miu stood up, clutching her folder. Her eyes were stinging, but she refused to cry in this office. "No, Ms. Schuett. I didn't forget." She walked to the door. Her hand was on the handle when Lena's voice stopped her, soft and barely audible, not CEO anymore, just Lena. "You cut your hair." Miu didn't turn around. She touched her hair — shorter now, just above her shoulders. "You used to like it long," she whispered. "I liked it however you wore it," Lena said. Miu left the office without looking back, closing the door quietly. Outside, in the elevator, she finally breathed. She had the job. She was working for her ex-girlfriend who had once told her to leave and not let the door hit her on the way out. Monday, 7:40 AM. She had no idea if she would survive it.
