@hakunamatata466: Tatadinding Jobarteh, born Ebrima Jobarteh in Brikama, The Gambia, in 1965, was a distinguished Gambian kora musician, cultural ambassador and member of a renowned Jali family. He contributed greatly to Gambian music by promoting the traditional 21-string kora and helping take Gambian music to international audiences through his performances and collaborations. His music was more than entertainment, it carried powerful messages about peace, unity, love, forgiveness, reconciliation and social responsibility. Through songs such as Kairo and his album Nka Naa Kele (“Let’s Not Fight”), he spoke about the realities and challenges of Gambian society, encouraging people to reject conflict and embrace peace and togetherness. His music reflected the times and gave a voice to important issues affecting the Gambian people. Tatadinding passed away in Brikama on 21 August 2021, at the age of 56. Although he may not be with us today, his music, his message and his legacy remain with us. Gambia, let us honour and remember this great son of our soil always, and continue to celebrate the cultural heritage and powerful messages he left behind.
