Day 1. First judging skit. The reenactment of the life of the Hudiya Hahinena. While her husband, the Baditauna, was away on the Hiri trade, she remained alone inside her house, speaking to no one except the wife of the Doritauna. For six long months, she followed a strict diet and did not wash or brush her hair. She stayed inside, enduring the loneliness, the waiting, and the pain of not knowing when her husband would return. She was tattooed during this time, and every night, as another day passed, she would reach up and tie a knot onto a cord hanging from the rooftop. One knot for each passing day. One knot for each night of loneliness. One knot closer to the day she prayed would come. The day her husband would return safely. With every knot or boi in motu, she tied, her heart held onto the hope that somewhere beyond the horizon, her Baditauna was making his way home. Then, after six long months, she tied the final knot. Suddenly, she heard the kibi from the Kiha Tauna—the sound announcing that the lagatoi was coming. Her heart raced. After months of waiting, hoping, and praying, the moment she had longed for was finally here. She burst out of her house and onto the veranda, filled with overwhelming joy. She put on her finest grass skirt, placed a hisiubada in her hair, and rubbed oil all over her body. With tears already filling her eyes, she began striking the floor of the veranda, her cries echoing with excitement. Tears of joy mixed with the sweat running down her face as she screamed with everything in her heart, “HEDIHOROOAAHHHHH BOGE BADA VADA EROHA!” After six months of silence, loneliness, and longing, her voice finally carried the joy of a woman who knew her husband was coming home. #MissBoerahanenamo #contestant09 #TYLAAUA #BOERA_PAPUANEWGUINEA #Hirimoalefestival
