@belovedcabin: How do we stay so cool in the summer without AC? 🤔 One of the reasons we chose to live in AG Zone 8a here in Middle-Georgia 🇺🇸 is due to this area usually having tepid summers. (Fun Fact: Our average summer temperatures range from the mid-70’s to mid-90’s.) Here in the forest there is no concrete and asphalt… cities such as nearby Atlanta, Macon and Augusta are far more hot and humid during the summer months compared to our homestead due to all the concrete and asphalt in those locations. 👍 During the summer, we have the air circulation vents open on both ends of our greenhouse-kitchen, greenhouse-bathroom, and main cabin area, as well as the air vents running full length under soffit. We have great shade from the tree canopy & live on a 19K-surface-acre lake with 347 miles of shoreline with constant cool breezes. We have a large ceiling fan, our 2 Vornado fans, and a 9KBtu AC unit🥶 (Fun Fact: We have not needed to use our AC since 2022.) We installed R-13 insulation in the walls & covered with drywall; we used foam insulation on the ceiling & covered with painted .25” plywood. (We insulated the ceiling between the rafters because we want to see the rafters as part of our design and to add a little more head clearance up in the lofts between the rafters.) 👍 👍🏽 We use the hail-proof, severe storm-rated, non-fade, sun-resistant polycarbonate panels made by PALRAM. (Fun Fact: These same polycarbonate panels are also Miami Dade County Approved.) These panels come with a life-time warranty, a 10-year warranty against hail damage, UV protective are an effective thermal insulator compared to both traditional glass and their acrylic counterpart – a quality that makes them particularly suited for use within secondary glazing, conservatories, and extensions… such as our greenhouse-kitchen and greenhouse-bathroom additions. After 15 years, we really enjoy the temps, lack of humidity/moisture/mold inside, and the environment we have been able to create both in our home and around our homestead throughout the year.🥰 - Fin & John - 🙏🏽+🙏=❤️ #offgrid #homestead #offgridliving #homesteadlife #DIY

You get used to it when you’re living in nature. I get it. A breeze in 82 feels like a vacation when you’re used to working in the sun day after day. The body will adjust.

I live off grid Florida. Just this year. I installed a 12vdc 11k BTU Mini split AC, with a 600ah Lithium battery & 1400w solar just for the AC. A game charge. We just use it in the bedroom. 70 degrees. We are working all day and nice to sleep in the cool

32 years as a ups driver. I agree . I can tell the temperature difference from just driving from the country into the city. You can feel the heat go up.

Back to basics for longevity! How many lives will be lost due to not condoning for WHEN we experience a total power grid failure?
