They told him they would send additional forces, but he said the war was moving so quickly that they were unable to provide timely support. He acknowledged the perseverance of the Tigrayan forces, which he said his own soldiers lacked. He also said his forces were equipped with artillery and tanks, while the TDF had little more than simple guns and bombs. His forces ultimately failed to break out.
