One of Australia’s youngest billionaires, @adrian_portelli, has made the move to Dubai. ✈️ Is this just one wealthy Australian making a lifestyle choice, or part of a bigger trend? The video is obviously satire, but the numbers are worth looking at. If you earn $1 million in Australia, roughly $440,000 goes to income tax and the Medicare levy. 💸 In the UAE, personal income tax is 0%. Does that mean wealthy Australians are suddenly fleeing the country? Not quite. Australia is still seeing a net inflow of millionaires, but the trend has changed significantly: 2023: +5,200 2024: +2,500 2025: +1,000 By comparison, the UAE attracted around 9,800 net millionaires in 2025. That means Australia’s net millionaire inflow dropped by around 81% in just two years, with 2025 reportedly the lowest level on record. Globally, around 165,000 millionaires are forecast to relocate internationally in 2026. Why does any of this matter to the average Aussie? 🇦🇺 ABS data broadly shows that the bottom 60% of households receive more through government benefits and services than they contribute, while the top 40% contribute more than they receive. That doesn’t mean people earning more shouldn’t pay more tax. It does mean there’s a balance. Ideally, you want high-income earners staying here, building businesses, investing and paying large amounts of tax. You probably don’t want to make leaving Australia increasingly attractive. Because if enough of the people paying the largest tax bills leave, the cost doesn’t simply disappear. Someone else ultimately has to carry it. And just to be clear, moving overseas does not automatically make someone a non-resident for Australian tax purposes. Australian tax residency and Australian-sourced income can be much more complicated. This is satire and general commentary, not tax advice. #AustralianTax #DubaiLife #WealthMigration #Australia #CostOfLiving @July Travel @TISSOT @Ray-Ban
