@draizident: Five things other people may allow for their children, but I simply will not gamble with mine. 1. Button batteries. They may be tiny, but swallowing one can cause devastating internal injuries. 2. Cotton buds/Q-tips in the ears. The ear canal does not need to be routinely cleaned with them, and pushing them inside can cause injury, impacted wax or even a perforated eardrum. 3. Injections in the buttocks. Some injections can cause serious nerve or tissue injury when given incorrectly, and the buttock is not automatically the safest site for every injection. 4. Antibiotics for viral illnesses. Antibiotics don’t treat viruses, and unnecessary use can cause side effects and contribute to antibiotic resistance. 5. Baby walkers. They can give babies access to hazards they otherwise couldn’t reach and increase the risk of falls and other injuries. Parenting already comes with enough risks we cannot control.
