The narrator discovers that Lori is now working in the adult industry and immediately assumes she needs to be rescued. Then Lori answers back. And that completely changes the song. She rejects his judgment and explains that she chose this life herself. To her, working a factory job for little money felt far more degrading. Now she controls her own decisions, her time and the money she earns. Fat Mike later emphasized the idea at the heart of the story: what matters is consent and a person's ability to decide what they want to do with their own life. So what begins as a story about someone trying to “save” an old friend turns into something else entirely. Maybe Lori never needed saving.
