They always equate Blackness to being “hood”, “ghetto”, “ratchet”… but it’s never “I grew up around Black ppl and I understand the struggle and the racism behind that word, so I respect yall enough to not say it.”

I told someone on this app that only flys in NYC. The rest of us in Upstate NY don’t allow that for a historical reason. There response was “Well nobody asked you because Upstate NY ain’t the real New York.” I said ahhhhhh these people have lost the plot.

I'm a 56 year old Black American Bronxite who's parents are from Jim Crowe Alabama. I grew up in 70 and 80 with Puerto Ricans 🇵🇷 and also Whites as well (Although,They were fleeing to Westchester County and New Jersey). I grew up on the other end of Sedgwick (the birth place of Hip hop) Avenue. I remember seeing Grand Master Flash and Furious Five on Fordham Road. To put things into perspective, when in my Junior High band playing percussion My Puerto Rican girl drummers sported Menudo buttons while I had on New Edition. My elementary Puerto Rican friend mom made her get Puerto Rican friends in Junior High. In elementary, we celebrated Puerto Rican Discovery day, but not Black History month and all my teachers were Jewish. I lived North East Bronx, and I gather that Black and Puerto Ricans in the South Bronx were super close bonding over poverty. I llived in Alabama from age 16 - 28; and been back in The Bronx 28 years now and I noticed when I came back that the "N" word is mostly Latino slang used in every sentence. Now that the Dominicans are majority in the Bronx, they do it too!
