@carriesisson: I’ve never used cardio to maintain my weight. Not at 40, not at 50, not now at 70. What has always worked is pretty simple: Move your body. Lift heavy. Eat well. I know a lot of people hear that and think, okay but what about actually losing weight? What about tightening up? Same answer. Strength training. Because the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns just existing. You’re literally changing what your body does at rest. Cardio doesn’t give you that. And if you’re starting out with more body fat and not a lot of muscle yet, this matters even more for you. Your body has so much room to recompose (to lose fat and build muscle at the same time) and lifting is what makes that happen. You don’t need to run for an hour. You need to pick up something heavy and do it consistently! The cardio hunger is real too. The more I did, the hungrier I got. Strength training never did that to me. When I was younger there just wasn’t a lot of information about this for women, and I’m so glad that’s changing. Because lifting heavy isn’t just for athletes or young people- it’s for everyone, at every stage, for every goal!! Weight loss, toning, maintenance, longevity. It all comes back to muscle. Build it. Protect it. Keep going💪💪 #strengthtraining #strength #workoutprogram #longevity #weightloss

100%. When I was in my 20s I was so focused on cardio, now I have 113lbs of lean muscle which makes me each 600 more calories than when I was in my 20s starving myself and spending all my time on the elliptical. I do walk on my off days to keep my body moving but I only do conversational walking pace.
