A child never died from crying for a few minutes so if you need to step away just put them somewhere safe and leave the room. It’s the best thing you can do for yourself and your baby in that moment.

My HV disliked me and let me know about it. No idea why. I just winged everything and I got through it.

"You must have been smoking, your placenta is tiny!"
3 weeks later I haemorrhaged due to a huge chunk of placenta rotting inside me.
I was not a smoker.

Mine was it’s cot death season so take extra care following the advice leaflet 🤦🏼♀️that sentence destroyed me, especially because my second child was born in the same month.

Can’t spoil before 12 weeks? You can’t spoil them whilst they are any age baby

“A cold baby cries, a hot baby dies” sounds brutal but this helped me distinguish between my babies being comfortably warm instead of dangerously overheating.

I remember when my family walked in after I had my first and my midwife said very loudly so they all could hear “Well she made that look easy!” I had not made it look easy, but she made me feel like a superhero, and I’ve never forgot about it!

Can’t spoil them before 12 WEEKS? That’s bonkers. There’s no such thing as spoiling your baby with too much love, even when they are 80.

biggest thing for me is the "they are safe crying in their cot, they might not be safe in your arms if you're losing it" - even if that means leaving them alone in their crib and walking all the way down the street until you can't hear them so you can catch your breath for 5 minutes. if you get to the point of needing to do this, you need to call in reinforcements asap though

Midwife here. Whenever I meet a mum losing or who has just lost their baby, they often apologise for crying. I remind them that no matter how early the loss, that was her baby, and her grief matters, it is not a burden, it doesn't take space. I tell them to cry if they need to, to talk if they want or to just sit in silence if they want me there. There is no such thing as "at least it was early on" or "you can always try again". This baby is yours and will be forever, their life matters, however short it was ❤️🩹

my mum is a HV... shes said she would see more red flags if a home was spotless because it could mean the mum was either not giving baby enough focus or not giving herself enough focus and time for rest. Homes are for living in, not for magazine covers. Let the dishes wait, let the laundry sit in a pile. It'll be ok.

As a first time mum and with twins the advice my midwife gave me that always stuck with me was. If you feel like you need a minute to reset yourself, put them somewhere safe and go take a breath, a glass of water, count to 10 and then return. They’re 8 now and I still sometimes need to take that 5 minute breather just to reset my mind

Mine was a bitch, told me I should make an effort and get dressed and that my son had lost weight 7 days after birth and not to leave my dog near the baby. I switched doctors same day another lady came and she was great! Told her what they said and she said almost all babies lose weight, and me not getting dressed for 9am for a health visitor isn't the end of the world.

Mine said ‘all I’m looking for is a fed baby and a happy mummy, I don’t care whether you fed that baby by breast or bottle. As long as she’s fed and you’re happy’. Will never forget her 💕💕💕

‘You don’t need my, or anyone else’s, permission to stop breastfeeding’ Paid me an extra visit a week later, first thing she asked was how I was feeding, and simply said ‘good’ when I said 100% formula.

I struggled so hard I wasn't discharged until a week later, my midwife kept visiting instead. the first visit, her first question was how are you? and I broke into tears, she gave me the best hug I've ever gotten, she sent family out the room, she held my baby and comforted me until I could calmly explain why I was so upset. I will never forget her.

"please, stop breastfeeding, it's ok, I promise"
my son had cmpa, I was triple feeding, pumping every 2 hours and so sad I thought I was gonna die, I never never produced enough even if I tried. She doesn't know it, but she saved me. The moment we switched to cmpa formula he started to feel so much better and the moment I stopped pumping I started feeling so sad

I had a friend who had three boys and I had three girls around the same time her children were always premature and she breastfed so she was feeding every hour as their tummies when prem can’t hold much. I turned up at her house heavily pregnant myself with my girls took the baby from her ran her a bath and put her in it, made sandwiches for the kids and did her washing and ironing, there was no “can I help” I just did it, and when mine were born she did the same thing for me🥰
