My heart is literally racing after posting this. I hate reliving this experience… but this is childhood cancer. We went in for platelets the end of September 2023 and had no idea what we were about to face. She spiked a fever right before discharge and ended up being admitted… she was positive for ecoli in her blood, so they treated it and she started to seem a little better… then she got the rhinovirus… when we were almost done with her anti for the ecoli she had a rapid downhill turn. The drs worked fast trying to figure out what was wrong… her breathing became rapid… fevers wouldn’t go down, and platelets dropped to 5,000. She had almost round the clock infusions of platelets, RBCs, and fresh frozen plasma… she ended up having a rare fungal lung infection called aspergillosis. She has sepsis and bad cellulitis in her diaper area where her skin was basically being eaten away. She battled hard for a month.
