Most of the stores in downtown Salem are small businesses as well, so trying to enforce “temporary” window art that has to change every 3 months and can only cover 20% of the window disproportionately affect small businesses.

No community that is working toward increasing OR SUSTAINING development should EVER get in the way of small business. Small businesses in MA face hundreds of uphill battles to survive. Creating unnecessary friction for this population is outright shameful and infuriating. THESE are the citizens that have CREATED the community you are governing. Give me a f* break.

That’s so dumb. I live in Salem and it’s been painted like that for as long as I can remember. My kids love it. People really don’t have better things to worry about? 🙄

They did this last year with the umbrellas too!! Made every business buy new expensive umbrellas instead of the free ones the liquor companies gift to them…but only downtown! Meanwhile they let tons of ugly apartment buildings go up on every other block and don’t focus on how disgusting the water quality is in the downtown areas or the litter and homeless problem.

“Created in the 60s to target and remove blight” …. so an organization created to invoke eminent domain, redline, and physically remove residents. Really sounds like an institution that should continue to exist in 2026
