As good of a platform Steam can be, it’s still an example of buying not equaling owning a digital good. They sell licenses to play a copy, not a real copy of a game.

These are great points. But I think it's also important to remember that even if these points weren't true, billionaires are unethical also because of what they don't do, and not just because of what they do. To be a billionaire means to have such massive wealth and control over resources while not doing nearly enough with those resources as you're able to. Hoarding wealth while others are starving is a form of structural violence, so even a hypothetical billionaire who didn't directly harm/exploit anyone to build their wealth is still doing something unethical by having so much money sitting in a portfolio somewhere

I don’t agree with you implying steam is keeping pc gamers poor when the hobby has mostly been for the middle class and even more now especially after 2020 price hikes and post ddr5 prices. I think it’s also why steam users see him as a good person because he’s really not exploiting to the point other billionaires do or for as much of their money as the others.

Let's not forget that Valve is kinda the ones who fucking started "surprise mechanics" aka Loot boxes in TF2 and CS. And if you really wanna play the blame game you can blame that as the catalyst as to why Gen Z and Alpha are so addicted to gambling since from TF2 and CS it spread
