I didn’t argue with mine. I told him I was going to solve the problem later. Then when he left for the day, I hid what he was playing with. He came in the next day to get it out and asked me where the toys were. I said they’re gone because you made me solve the problem. I used that several times throughout the year but after that first time I just had to tell him I’m going to solve this problem later and he put it away.

my trick is to go around saying, "wow. Millie is cleaning up so quickly. Joey put away those trucks so fast! and Ricky helped with the dolls so nicely!" this shows me giving positive attention to those that are cleaning up and usually it works. on the off chance it doesn't, i have to let them know if they don't start cleaning i will help and that area will be closed to them until the next day.
