Limits on sick days is actually ridiculous, in school or work settings. People get sick, shit happens. Your body/immune system doesn't go "oh no, I can only get sick twice"

Too many people are only thinking of their privileged lifestyle. In high school we see so many kids who have to stay home to watch their younger siblings so mom or dad can still go to work and earn money. These high school age kids are also often the translators for their parents who are ESL so they often accompany parents to doctors appointments and government appointments. We have to think beyond “kids who are skipping“ and judge absences based on the child not the tally.

Everyone in the comments are delusional. You all want kids showing up to school when they’re sick af? When they have Covid? The flu? Other illnesses? Not to mention all the kids that have born illnesses and such. You think that just starts when you hit 18? No. My wife had had a heart condition since birth and missed tons of school because of it, guess what she graduated high school with flying colours, and went to college and university for nursing. Absences don’t mean shit. 🙄

Mmmm I can’t see this lasting long. They can’t discriminate. Kids get mental health issues like depression and can’t go to school, have medical conditions, can’t afford a community bus to get to school, lots of things to factor in out of the child’s control.

I would hope if it’s explained absences, like teams, clubs, illness or family commitments, there wouldn’t be an issue and if there was then teachers/vp’s/guidance councillors would contact parents and maybe schedule a meeting to discuss. I do agree that the students blatantly skipping classes should have more consequences than just a phone call home and shouldn’t be receiving easy passes in classes

when a child is sick to the point where they can't be at school but then they're punished because of it .. so by this logic each sick child passes it along eventually all will be sick and all will lose 10-15% so they all fail ... make it make sense

I missed a lot of high school due to mental illness and stuff going on at home and I still graduated top marks and several awards, went to college and graduated there as well. Attendance is important but sometimes it isn’t everything. And in the case of preparing kids for the real world, I fully understood that if I didn’t show up for work I didn’t get paid or could lose my job. And I didn’t learn that from being penalized for my absence in school

as someone who missed a lot, a lot of these kids constantly missing are either struggling with chronic illness or mental illness. if you want to be a teacher you should learn to be understanding and accommodating

I want to go on vacation in the winter months, to non winter locations. My kids usually miss about 14 days right there. So we are punishing adults as well? 🤔

the real fucking question is why are yall getting sick this easily…I got sick bad enough to stay home maybe 5 times a year. are we not washing our hands, showering daily, washing clothes ? if it’s not an option bc you’re in an unfortunate circumstance than that’s fine but like cmon now
