@mymsmermaidlife: Having MS means everyone you meet is suddenly a holistic specialist who knows a guy whose second cousin cured nerve damage with a green smoothie... 😭 Land is full of unhinged advice, but down here the rules of gravity don’t apply and my body actually feels free 🧜♀️✨ What’s the most unhinged unsolicited advice you’ve ever gotten with a completely straight face? Tell me in the comments! 👇 . . . . . #MSMermaid #ChronicIllnessHumor #SpoonieLife #AdaptiveScuba #DivingBeyondMS

The neurologist that diagnosed me with ms as a teen btw, after i was in the icu said two things to me. We understand you may be depressed most ms patients are… my response… only reason i will end up depressed is if i am stuck here. That same specialty team (in one of the top hospitals in the us) told me, you may want to reconsider college. I went from a close to photographic memory of reading before an exam and acing it, to not being able to read a paragraph and know what I read. I held my tongue, asked for accommodations for a longer time to complete the courses when I returned to school and went to speech therapy to relearn to learn. It took me a year longer, due to the bump but I graduated as one of the top of my class in computer science. I wanted to shove my degree in his face … back at the hospital so badly… for how quickly he was telling me to just give up and accept it. As a teen who thought they had their whole life ahead of them a week before that. Now I work with companies to make games and peripherals more accessible for those with illness and disability, and run my own show on Twitch.

leaving the farm stand and bakery today. I had the woman who owns it come running to the parking area to give me a piece of paper with a YouTube channel on it. she loudly announced as she crotched down to speak to me in my wheelchair "THEY WILL GET YOU OFF THE DR*GS!" I was too shocked to speak honestly. I got in the car and looked it up.....it's some dude claiming to be a doctor who isn't that says the carnivore diet would help with everything from weight loss to chronic illness cure to stopping sm0king. that veggies, fruits and carbs were the reason for all the @ddictions, chronic illnesses and so on.....the owner of a FARM STAND AND BAKERY. 🙄

my gp told me to practice being more mindful. The main issue ( beside multiple chronic illnesses) was that my hemaglobin was at 6.4 and I could barely walk, speak, breathe etc. He took me off of all meds. Id begin menopause. my gyno wanted to snack him. be more mindful mondful when your hemaglobin is that low.

‘You just need to drink more water’, ‘it’s because you don’t exercise’, dinosaur neurologist ‘I am going to give you a set of stretches and have you come back in 2 weeks’ me: sir, I actually do those same stretches daily that several PTs have shown me.’ Dino neuro: ‘well you have done MY stretches’ then proceeds to show me the same stretches I have been doing for the last 15 years. That was 12 years ago. I have yet to make my 2 week follow up appointment

Honestly the gluten one actually helped me a lot. It cuts down on my inflammation and reduces pain. If I eat gluten now I have a bit flare up. But that’s just me. Obviously MS affects us all differently so no advice is prescriptive.

My family friend came over and told me how changing her diet and cutting out sugar cured her sister of MS and I just smiled and nodded my head as I shoveled rocky road ice cream in my mouth
