Crowther wore a red bandana over his nose and mouth to shield himself from smoke and fire. The 24-year-old equities trader and volunteer firefighter made multiple trips up into the World Trade Center's South Tower 78th-floor sky lobby to guide survivors to safety. He is credited with saving as many as 18 lives before he was killed in the collapse of the south tower.
