@34___iq: The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), known in Arabic as Al-Hashd Al-Shaabi, are an Iraqi security organization that was formed in 2014 in response to the rapid expansion of ISIS and the fall of several Iraqi cities under its control. The establishment of the PMF followed a religious call issued by Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani in June 2014, urging capable Iraqis to defend the country, its people, and its holy sites against the threat posed by ISIS. The PMF played a significant role in Iraq’s fight against ISIS between 2014 and 2017. Its forces participated in numerous military operations alongside the Iraqi Army, Federal Police, Counter Terrorism Service, and other Iraqi security forces. During the liberation operations, the PMF contributed to securing important areas, cutting supply routes, supporting advances against ISIS positions, and helping to liberate several towns and territories. Its role was particularly significant in operations in areas such as Salah al-Din, Anbar, Nineveh, and Diyala. In December 2017, the Iraqi government officially announced the military defeat of ISIS in Iraq. The PMF remains part of Iraq’s official security structure and operates within the framework of Iraqi law. In conclusion, the Popular Mobilization Forces became an important component of Iraq’s security forces during the war against ISIS and played a major role in the country’s liberation operations and the restoration of security in areas that had been controlled by the terrorist organization.
