It wasn’t a leg challenge for me it was a header. I nodded the ball away and his leg came straight into my head. The referee waved play on, and honestly, I couldn’t understand it. For me, that is a dangerous challenge and on another day you could easily see a red card. I walked over to him because I was angry. I told him, ‘Is this what you do at Real Madrid? Pay off referees so they favour you?’ Maybe it was emotional, but I was frustrated because we felt like every little foul we committed was being punished with a card, while challenges against us were being allowed to go. I respect Real Madrid and I respect their players, but when you’re on the pitch and you feel the decisions are going against you, emotions can take over.
