@abbyeckel: Teach boys to care. Teach boys friendship. Teach boys empathy. Teach them decenter themselves. Teach them love and compassion. Teach them to anticipate. We so often think of boys still as “set it and forget it” and that’s exactly why men are so lonely. Because they were never given the tools to form genuine, deep friendships. They’re not taught to ask questions, they’re taught to center themselves and talk over each other in order to feel heard. Don’t do your boys a disservice by not teaching them the importance of caring about other people. That’s community. #raisingboys #momtoboys #boymom
If men don't know men, how can they claim their friends aren't bad men?

My 9 year old son told me he liked a girl. I looked at him and said “what color are her eyes”. He didn’t know—I explained that in order to like someone you have to notice them. Know what they like and dislike. Now when he tells me he likes are girl he gives me her name, eye color, her likes and dislikes and then explains what he likes about her “she is so funny and smart and she is so good at playing football at recess”. Proud mama.

No one taught me or my female peers exactly what questions to ask and to ask follow up questions.
We were NATURALLY CURIOUS and INTERESTED in others.
Teach your kids to be CURIOUS and INTERESTED in other people, all genders.

No. Saying they weren't taught how to do it takes the onus of responsibility off them and that's BS. They're adults. I wasn't taught to do the vast majority of the things I now do as an adult but I figured it out. I took responsibility and learned. They could but they choose not to and I'm tired of society making excuses for them.

They weren’t taught? Their mother models it for them every day. They can’t be bothered.

Hot take: this is also why men put so much emotional labor on women. They dont have other healthy emotional outlets and expect their wives to run the family AND meet their mental needs

I would actually be really hurt if I went through a life changing break up and was heartbroken and my friends laughed in my face and didn't even remember his name or take it serious....thats sad

THIS is a THEM thing men or women after a certain amount of time you should know better women tend to talk more about the nitty gritty but not knowing your friends is on you and it shows that your friends from proximity and not that you actually are friends

People that don't know anything about your life are not friends. Just because you hang out with people does not make them your friends. Friends care

Marcello Hernandez from SNL has a stand up comedy bit about how the ugly guy gets the hot girl because not only does he ask her questions, he asks follow up questions.

It’s also why they always say “Not all men are bad.” They don’t fucking know anything about each other to even know if their buddy is a rapist or a beater!

I don’t think girls are taught this either. It comes naturally to people who are just generally willing to listen and understand others.
