After 6 years I finally got to go inside and explore Arundel Castle 🏰 I'm often down south in the winter and well it's closed then so I'm so glad I finally got to go in explore and wow 😍 @arundelcastleuk There’s so much history here that you could spend hours wandering around and still not see everything. The story of the castle goes all the way back to 1067, with the motte being built in 1068, and it’s been home to the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for over 850 years. I loved exploring the castle, seeing all the old medieval defences and taking in the views over the River Arun and the Sussex countryside. Then there are the gardens, which are just as impressive — 38 acres of gardens and grounds with everything from the English Rose Garden and Victorian glasshouses to the Collector Earl’s Garden and the Water Gardens. 🌹🌿 And a little fact I didn’t know before visiting… the castle was one of the first English country houses to have electric lighting, central heating, service lifts AND its own fire-fighting equipment when it was restored in the late 1800s! ⚡️ Definitely somewhere I’d recommend visiting — beautiful, interesting and you can’t help but imagine all the people and stories that have passed through here over nearly 1,000 years. 🏰✨ #ArundelCastle #Arundel #WestSussex #SussexDaysOut #ExploreSussex - @freya_adventureawaits
