As someone was has worked with race both flat, steeplechase and harness we always started our harness horses on the ground first we didn’t put a silky behind them until they could ground long rein

I am cracking up. I worked at a farm when the breeding barn was halter breaking babies. One day I saw 6 babies and their handlers. They were Arabians, so absolutely nothing happened to trigger this, but the group exploded and started running in all directions. It looked exactly like this but without the carts. The people were dragging their feet, tripping and falling, one girl went by on her stomach as she refused to let go of her baby. I’ve never seen anything else like it until just now.😂

Everyone is acting like they’re dying on the ground with broken legs. They’re babies, and babies will be babies. You never want to force them to act like a 7 year old with knowledge, they don’t understand all these new things and some babies handle it well, and some still are a bit awkward! This is better than some of those colt starters than just make their babies panic and hurt themselves.

This breed actually does well with info dumping…. Or doing multiple first things at once…. They process and get to second base with the least amount of stupidity … Looks bizarre but watch on the ground and it makes sense… Now my warmbloods on the other hand ..simply would not work…. Different breed…. different brain….

People whining about yearlings in carts meanwhile a guy I learned some of my driving basics from (a very well known and old hand in the harness world), would always insist on tacking up his drafts as weaklings, having them pull a cart with brakes by one year around the lot a couple times, then turned them out until they were done growing. Elephant on a chain and whatnot
