Me and my husband own a house in PA from the 1800s and we have a similar room in our attic with a signature from 1912

It couldn’t have been a room for staff because how would the enter and exit discretely in the presence of guests. Disappointment room?🫣🙈

I’d be watching the tape, playing the cassettes and ripping through those bags in the attic expeditiously. My curiosity would eat me alive 😂

Hmm my grandmother’s home in coastal Maine (built approx 1890) has a space in the attic where my great great uncle slept for a while because he had no where else to go and all the bedrooms were occupied because they had so many children and other adults living in the house. I feel like it wasn’t uncommon to utilize attic spaces in that era. Also if your house is like ours, the cellar is just that… so that wouldn’t have been an option for livable space. And the room has the chimney in it which may produce heat in winter??🤷🏻♀️just my two cents
