At the announcement, Mamdani explained the documents show what the city knew about the toxic air around ground zero, when they knew and how it acted to limit liability. According to a new FDNY health report, 12,000 firefighters who responded to ground zero have been diagnosed with a 9/11-related illness. Meanwhile, 57,044 people have been diagnosed with 9/11-linked cancer over 25 years.
