the thing is this is a bullying tactic they carried over from highschool. it's the tactic of "you're weird so i'm gonna reply super dry and stare at you to embarrass you and make you go away because i think your behavior is embarrassing or i think you are ugly." and they aren't smart enough to understand that this bullying tactic doesn't work in the real world. it backfires on them because it makes THEM seem weird.

I'm discovering when people behave this way it's all an act. I don't know why they're acting like this but I have tried politely asking them in a concerned tone if they're are unwell or if they have some special needs I should be aware of. On occasion they're offended but 100% of the time they snap out of it and start acting normal.

this is their generation's way of trying to be cool. also a lot of they have no very little experience interacting with ppl in the real world and are just scared or insecure and acting this way is their way of making themselves feel better about it

I hate being that person but I've started reporting people to their managers. I work part time and I do not have the time to deal with people like this.. I would expect the same if I wasn't doing my job and acting a fool.
