Humans created the concept of nihilism, humans created a bunch of concepts, terms and labels to attempt to make sense of it all. Zoom out a bit and you’ll realize you are living a life that wasn’t created by you, you’re living a life that another human created for other humans. At the end of the day it’s up to you to decide how you feel in your mind body and soul. Obviously we have a nervous system and a way to react to the world because we are kind of like animals but you have the ability to think.

the main point of the show was essentially told entirely in the episode “a view from halfway down” where the argument against bojack’s nihilism was that yes, things might not matter, but you won’t get another chance where they might. it basically shows him that no matter the philosophy, the life he has is the only one he gets and whether or not he views that as a reason to try, the show goes on. topped off even more with the show actually continuing and not having him die in the pool. so his nihilism is withdrawn from his subjective experience of selfishness and put into the perspective of human existence itself. showing him that having lived his life whatever way, that is how it will be remembered. basically, counter arguing that his choices, in fact, do matter.
