Moving to LA when you don't know many people is VERY hard for almost everyone. Especially if you aren't working a job with people in a similar life stage to you. It's a big city and very dispersed, so you won't see people frequently unless you really try. Not to freak you out, but it takes at least a year or two to really feel settled here.

As someone who moved from L.A. to Minnesota 13 years ago, eventually you'll adjust and you'll fall in love with some things and still miss other things from home, and then one day you'll realize that your heart exists in two different places that you can never be in at the same time

The fact that people tell you to go back home when you’re having normal feelings about a life altering decision….🤯 the only advice I will dole out to a stranger on the internet is: take the time to stop and look around at what’s happening. It really is true that we don’t realize the memories are happening as they’re happening. Journaling always has helped me with this part. But keep going. DONT GO HOME!

A family friend who moved to the US at 19 gave me the advice her mom gave her: you have to give any change (location, job, relationship etc.) at least 6 months before you can make any real decisions about whether you like the change. Give yourself grace!!

Im 41, my husband had this really cool aunt who moved from Holland to the US (then eventually Canada) in the 50s ALONE at 17. I thought she was the most bad ass thing. Just fearlessly going to chase her dreams and see the world. She eventually got married and had a bunch of kids but I always think of how much happier she must have been to have taken time to bet on herself and see so much of the world before becoming someones wife and mother in a time when so many women just married the first person who showed an interest in them because marriage was the only life goal they thought they could achieve. I always think its the coolest shit when women bet on themselves.

How many parking tickets have you gotten so far? My son drove from OleMiss to LA 8 years ago and never looked back. He’s in Hollywood and can walk to the Hollywood Bowl. Have a blast!! There’s so much to do.

I made the move from CA to TX by myself when I was 35 and didn’t know anyone or anything. I used bumble bff to find friends and it took me a solid year to get settled and acclimated. I found the best people who I can’t imagine my life without and I’ve never been happier 🥰

I think this is really important and I hope you have under 30 yo girls following you bc this younger generation is so discomfort adverse that it’s scary. You can’t anticipate every new experience, you can’t prepare for EVERYTHING. Have a unique experience, do something scary, go visit a new city blind, go buy a coffee without looking at the reviews. Social media has connected us but it also feels like we need to ask ten ppl for advice before we do something. Just jump, I promise you will be okay ❤️

Love this. As someone w kids your age, I’m glad you can see that REALLY doing the hard things IS the key to growth. I made same kind of move in my 20’s and remember how scary and awful it could be-but it also changed my life. This stranger on the internet is proud of you.
