I just finished Octavia Butler's, parable of the sower and parable of the talents. I love the Earthseed religion she develops in those novels. "God is change"

It doesn't bring me comfort to think that I could also be one of the worst humans doing terrible things. But I do wish everyone believed in reincarnation, because I think it would make the world a better place. You'd work to ensure everyone has a decent life, since you never know who you might be or what your circumstances could be in your next life.

Well there I was, thinking 37 is very late to be experiencing empathy for the first time and then I realised that Musk has got all the way to 55 and he's yet to discover it.

I want it to be true. No reason anymore to ever be jealous, or have regrets, or have fomo. I will be the one dancing on stage. I was the one with that awesome project. Etc.

What about the animals? If i just keep getting reincarnated as a human then why would i create a universe? I have been my own god since i was a kid, i never got groomed into religion. If I’m going to be reincarnated please let it be in another galaxy. The furthest away from the Milky Way would be nice 👻. 🤙🇺🇸🌊🌈💙🌍🌎🌏😎

Scientology was also started by a science fiction writer. People will believe completely outlandish things

I do my best to not have any beliefs at all, so I don't take it seriously either. The utter condescension expressed in this video though is pretty disgusting.

So, his aunt won an argument so hard she induced empathy in a 37 yr old man. I think the aunt should write a book and call it "Frying a Cracked Egg"

It’s always reminded me of the one-electron universe theory, also just a thought experiment. I don’t know about the becoming a god part, I think of it as a consciousness splitting itself apart so as not to be alone. I don’t believe it, but it’s way more interesting than Mormonism.

I feel like it's a very comforting story. I also think it's a very male experience to hear this theory and discover the importance of empathy and have a religious experience about the importance of empathy. were fab folks are taught empathy like breathing.

I like the story, but Jebus if he didn’t experience empathy until 37, that’s absolutely shocking.

...only works if time is interpreted, not as a mere abstracted relative unit of contextual perspective for the logical framing of events (epistemological category) but instead as a tangible, fundamental and affectual attribute of existence itself (ontological property) - I'm leaning hard towards the former...

saying that he experienced empathy for the first time is a weird take. he had experienced empathy countless times before that and I'm sure countless times since. no doubt this was a powerful moment of him experiencing empathy however, because it allowed him to really get into how she was thinking.
