I'd recommend the curves method for anyone that is starting out watching this video, as it is more beginner friendly, as you don't have to do each strand as manually as in the video, which can be hard for some users who might be struggling with the modeling process, as well as topology. Especially as you can turn those curve objects into mesh objects to add any further details, like the little strands at the end as shown in the video, however that could add some unwanted polygons, but for the most part it's pretty basic to clean up and remove those extra loops. Some critiques I have, is that splitting seams down the middle is not always the best idea, as some parts show more of the backside than others (check in both perspective and orthographic views) while turning the view towards the side, although even then, in a more simple style, they most likely won't be visible, depending HEAVILY on the use scenario and art style. Also my main problem, is that the video seems to be missing the workflow of how to get the UV map either extracted or linked (some programs might not have add-ons for live linking for drawing on the images, so it's also important to show how to export a UV map as a png as well), other than that though, fantastic art, keep it up! 🙂
