I’ve known that a lot of sleep apnea symptoms appear clinically in the mouth, but I had never heard of this exact classification for them! This is super helpful!

In school, I learned to do the Mallampati score with the patient sitting upright. One of our periodontists who is on the Board for the American Sleep and Breathing Academy and runs a sleep apnea clinic in Austin, explained that reclining can allow the tongue to fall back and affect the score, so we were always told to have them sit up
