@steel.man.debates: 🏛️ David Friedberg says the U.S. economy might be f'd – and the voters are gonna respond by voting in a socialist, which would make the economy even more f'd: "If we went back to 2019, we would actually have a budget surplus right now as a country... If we had the same spending levels as we had in 2019, our federal government would be making a profit paying down the debt. And the reality is we've taken this emergency spending and made it a permanent spending. If the inflation remains high, people's affordability continues to go low. They're going to vote for something that's going to give them a solution. And I don't see a political message winning that says the federal government will now spend less... I worry that the one way solution here is something that is very damaging to individual liberties." — David Friedberg, CEO of Ohalo Genetics, on @the all-in podcast #davidfriedberg #theallinpod #debtcrisis #economics
A good start to solve this issue is tax the net worth of the ultra rich. An annual 5% tax on net worth for anyone with a net worth over $50 million would significantly reduced the debt in 10 years.

The sad part about it. It’s either Democrats wasting money on social programs that they embezzle or Republicans given social programs to the rich as they give them tax breaks and insider trading while everyone else starves. That’s not even including warfare. and nothing will ever get fixed, so just keep the divided us with identity politics

It’s cause of republicans wasting money on everything but actually helping Americans. And Donald is definitely going to crash the economy and blame the next guy just like they did with Biden. Biden inherited an economic disaster

Social security comes from the general fund. There is no running out of money. They print money and make money so how’s running out??

Billionaires create crises to force government to create regulations. Regulations destroy competition and reinforces their power.

Mr Bob :
True but do note more than half of the increase in spending is interest on past govt debt. So not really fair to say it’s primarily excessive spending currently but rather a catching up of our refusal to balance the budget.

Eddie Murdock :
It’s caused by printing to much money. Poor people lose purchasing power by printing money. This keeps them needing to work. Printing money makes people with assets worth more, thus increasing the wealth divide.

This is incorrect. Even if 2019 federal spending had only grown with inflation, 2025 tax receipts would have still been $500B short of outlays.
