A major breakthrough. impressive for AI. And it is likely to hold up. But while it would qualify for the millennium prize, it only solved a part of the N-S problem. The existence and smoothness problem, and the breakdown problem for unforced fluids remain open. The collection of problems for N-S is still wide open! And there’s drama surrounding this solution. I don’t like how Open AI apparently treats this as a race to find the solution, when Mathematics is a collaborative work. No good can come from that; especially in this case where they allegedly stole the discovery!

Many people did simillar proofs before. All failed in the review. Until it's reviewed by scientific community it means nothing.

It wasnt ai who did it. They stole 2 scientists that were already close to solution chat history gave it to a model and spent $800000 worth of tokens with an unreleased model

It didn't solve anything. Its found a counterexample to a specific theorem about the Navier-Stokes equations. It's reasonably interesting but genuinely completely irrelevant as far as engineering or further mathematics goes. Pretty much all of these "AI proofs" have really just been counterexamples, which we've known for decades that you can find eventually by throwing enough computing power at the problem. It's really just not that novel.

So basically two mathematicians were already close to the solution, and they were using AI as help not just letting AI do it, and Open AI stole the chat history and their work, used a better and unreleased model and a full team with multiple people assisted with AI to speedrun the last part of the job, and published the solution before the two mathematicians could even finish their job.

This is impressive but people comparing ai to regular human brain don’t understand that ai consumes more than an average human brain , therefore its obvious that it will produce more plus most of the navier stroke was already pathed in the internet it just needed to put the puzzle piece together to find a solution. AI will be a great ally to humanity or his biggest ennemy depending by who and why is it used.
