Inner speech is the internal narration many people experience while reading, planning, remembering, or simply thinking. For some people, that inner voice is almost constant, while others report far less verbal thought and rely more on images, feelings, concepts, or other forms of nonverbal thinking. Even stranger, inner speech can sometimes take the form of an internal dialogue, almost like different sides of your mind are responding to one another. Brain-imaging research also suggests that thinking in words can recruit some of the same neural systems involved in producing and processing actual speech.
