If you’re only dating casually and not looking for anything serious, fine, maybe politics doesn’t matter much. But if you’re dating to actually find a partner, it matters. Politics can tell you a lot about somebody’s values, worldview, empathy, priorities, and what they believe other people deserve. If you’re trying to figure out whether this is somebody you could actually build a life with, politics can become very relevant, very quickly.

I mean, I agree that dating should be fun. I also think that dating a Trumpy sounds like the opposite of fun. I don’t want to spend all of my time complaining about politics (even with people who agree with me). But I definitely agree with you on screening out people whose values are not compatible with yours.
