I saved 15k to move to Seattle. Did everything in 10k that includes couple months of rent, moving expenses and groceries. 10k will do. We left without having a job lined up. Found jobs in the second month of being here.

If you have a job secured $5,000 is perfect. If no job is secured then $10,000 would help.

Where in Oregon are you wanting to move? If you’re renting, plan $1500-2500 for rent depending on city without a roommate. Groceries average me about $120/week as a single person. Average for restaurants eating out is maybe $30-40 per person with drinks on the higher end. You can do it. I am born and raised here so happy to help if needed!

I applied for jobs, once I found one, did my calculations and did apartment search for something I could afford. I packed my car and kids and never looked back moved from CA to OR 2022. No regrets! Personally from my last job and savings I survived with $5k to start off and with income coming in quickly it worked out.

10k is a very comfortable moving savings to have if you’re moving into an apartment here in portland

If you don’t have a job set here don’t come. The cost of living is usually more than people expect. Find an apartment online and ideally have about six months of rent if you don’t have a job lined up. If everything’s perfect I would say five grand would be good

Just to be safe just have 3k for a deposit and first months and just be positive with your head up high. Good luck. Someone up there is cheering you on.

Try to get a job lined out before you get there, and search for an apartment you will be able to afford. I would go with at least 2 months rent and enough for groceries/gas etc, then you can try to thrift furniture honestly a lot of places in Oregon are great for thrifting
