@lyndsayonlife: In a few weeks, we hit 5 years. Five years of cancer. Five years of hospitals, surgeries, chemo, machines, terrifying phone calls, impossible decisions, and trying to keep four children living some version of a normal life while absolutely nothing about ours was normal. And recently, after almost five years of figuring it out, pushing through, making it work and carrying what needed to be carried... I had to ask for help...because we are back at square one and I'm spread too thin elsewhere. A few of you stepped in. I don't know if I'll ever be able to adequately explain what that meant to me. You didn't just help with the thing I asked for. You gave me somewhere to set the weight down for a minute. To those of you who have held space for us over these five years — who showed up, checked in, fed us, helped my other children, sat beside me, let me fall apart, or simply let me cry without trying to fix it — thank you. I will remember your kindness for the rest of my life. And to everyone else... If one day you find yourself where I've been, call me. If your world falls apart. If the hospital becomes home. If you're trying to keep your children smiling while you're breaking behind closed doors. If you're exhausted and terrified and you finally have to say the words “I need help”... Call me. Even if you weren't there for me. Because I know what it feels like when people show up. And I know what it feels like when they don't. I don't want what we've been through to make me harder. I want it to make me the person I needed. We don't heal our communities by shaming people for what they didn't do yesterday. We heal them by choosing to do differently tomorrow. So if your day ever comes, I will sit with you. I will feed you. I will hold your babies. I will make the phone call. I will listen while you cry. I will help carry whatever piece of it I can. We can only heal by doing. And I will be there for you. #HealBetter #CommunityMatters #CancerSucks
