@thebiggersthebetter: They get one warning and then we OUT! Idc how inconvenient it is or how much time/money we spent. Raising good kids is more valuable. #momtalk #gentleparenting #naturalconsequences #momtips #raisinglittles

gentle parenting actually is letting them experience consequences. I wish people would stop calling permissive parenting gentle parenting

Many parents don’t like handling natural consequences because they don’t want to have do the work of the follow through

We don’t leave, but they sit out like we literally got to Chuck E. Cheese one day and one of my kids was hitting she sat out the whole time because she wouldn’t apologize either.

This is what my mom did and I didn't throw many tantrums at all. We also had boring punishments. Literal boredom. Kind of like a time out, except we weren't told how long we'd have to sit, sometimes we had to write, once I had to open and close my door gently 100 times cos I kept slamming it. Ask how much longer and the time starts again. I don't remember being screamed at as a child. I got spanked exactly once. The boring punishments worked better.

What you’re describing is parents, having to actually inconvenience themselves to properly parent versus do the easy thing which allows them to not be inconvenienced, but ultimately harmed the child in the long run.

My parents had us in 2000, 2003, and 2009, and although they’d never admit it, a lot of how they parents was absolutely gentle parenting—but done the CORRECT way. If my mom said I’d lose my toy for a week if I threw it, there was no “one more chance.” I threw it, toy went away for a week. We didn’t have tantrums past like 2-3 because they’d just look at us and say “That’s okay. It’s fine to cry. Answer is still no. Let me know if you need a tissue.” 💀

Exactly. One of my friends kids a few years ago at a birthday party, her kid bit another kid and screamed when he didn’t get to blow out the candles. I felt bad b/c she was a nurse and she wanted a day off to socialize with some of the parents around her but she HAD to take him home as a consequence to his actions to show him if he wanted to act a fool it didnt matter how much she wanted to stay they BOTH had to leave that party (and he never acted like that at a party again b/c he knew she would be willing to leave even if it was inconvenient for her) it really only takes one or two times of showing that the parent will follow through on the consequence for it to work

I told my kids once I was on an errand and needed to finish first THEN we can do what they want, my son who was 5 at the time started crying and literally acting up.. I tried reminding him we finish my errand first, he didn’t listen. So we left and went home. He never did that ever again.

My husband and I started this very young and we have an incredibly well behaved toddler because of it. After a few times of leaving somewhere 5 minutes after you get there or simply not going places bc you threw a fit about putting on your shoes they will realize you don’t play. I am a gentle parent. I respect my child and treat her with dignity and kindness. I also am stern and strict. I do not and will not ever hit my child because I don’t need to.

My child hit me because I “gave her the wrong spoon” and I took that freshly scooped bowl of ice cream and dumped it right down the drain. Cause who you feeling like? She throws thing, they go in the trash. Throwing things is no longer a behavior I have to correct.

My mom gave a single warning, and if we kept it up at the store she would make us go up with her to the worker and apologize for not being able to put everything back in our cart because we were acting up and had to leave- it was embarrassing 😂

My 4 year old ate 4 bites of dinner and wanted to be done. I asked him to finish his food. He said he was full. I said okay I won’t force it but you will not be able to have another plate or snacks later and I mean it. Guess who asked for a snack an hour later. Guess what I said? No. Natural consequence. My son is well fed and healthy. It’s more important to learn that his decisions have consequences than it was for him to have a granola bar at 8pm.

My proudest parenting moment. I bought my son a toy. On the way out and getting buckled in the car, he was being a little shit. We marched right back into Walmart and returned the toy. Complete meltdown when we left the return counter without it. I have not had to corporally punish him since. He listens the first time because I WILL follow through

We only had to leave the store with my daughter ONCE. And now we just remind her about how sad she was that time we had to leave Costco, and she’s like “oh yeah” and usually gets a grip.

We went to an indoor playground about an hour and a half away from our house as it’s the closest one we were 15 minutes away and I turned the car around and we drove home spent almost 3 hours in the car to teach them a lesson. guess what my kids don’t act up in the car even a little permissive parenting is not the same as gentle parenting

See my issue with this advice is my child will often start acting out if they’re some place they don’t wanna be… like the grocery store. So like leaving isn’t a solution cause that would punish me (me not getting the groceries I need) and actually give them what they want (they want to leave) sooo I just power through. What’s the advice for that?😅 Mine is only a toddler though so still learning

👏👏👏 when you become a parent you’re signing up to the responsibility of teaching them how to handle themselves as they grow. EVEN IF that means you need to sacrifice moments in order to teach a lesson.

One thing my parents did really well is set and stick to firm boundaries. I have never once in my life cursed at, raised my voice to, or otherwise behaved disrespectfully towards my parents bc I straight up knew it wasn't allowed and they never let me get away with things. They were never scary--they were just consistently firm and non-negotiating
