She’s repeatedly abandoned and let down by her father, so remaining mysterious/romanticized and aloof is protection. She gets to feel wanted, but leaves before they can so she’s in control. The distance also protects her bc she can maintain that she doesn’t care since caring would make her vulnerable to being hurt again.

You can only romanticize someone you don't know well, I think Jessa likes to be romanticized. Being known means she could be rejected, she gets power in herself through feeling like she is also the rejecter. when she hooks up with that old x that had a new girlfriend, she feels powerful. It's a chess game and not intimacy

I think shosh and jessa are kind of both wrong in this scene tbh. Jessa has a point in that the author is making all of these blanket statements about what "ladies" should want that simply dont apply to all women in all situations. sex from behind is just sex from behind, it's a different sensation than missionary. it isnt inherently degrading and doesn't make you less worthy of respect. but the core of what she's saying that clearly resonates with shosh (that you dont have to put up with disrespect from men and can simply find someone who respects you) also clearly triggers jessa because deep down she doesnt think she's worthy of love, affection, or being fully known and she resents the implication that she could ever be clocked like that by a stranger

You're literally saying that Jessa doesn't have enough self esteem to voluntarily enter a heteronormative relationship in which she would provide emotional labor for a man. She does not want to serve a man. She wants sex. She wants money. She has high self esteem in this episode, not low self esteem.

No. You are laboring under the false assumption that women want to go on heterosexual romantic dates in the first place. She's not looking for male approval at this point in the series. She's looking for a job. It's not that Jessa secretly wants a man to take care of her in the form of a romantic gesture. She's saying the exact opposite. You couldn't be more wrong about her.
