@antifascistdad: Full context of Beatrice Adler Bolton's "dysgenic" comments, for those who want to learn what the rightwing shitpost clip jockey left out, and think about how easy it is to glitch out on solidarity for the thrill of swarming. It wasn't dissing gym culture, self care, self defence, or anything like that. It was about whether revolutionary movements should mimic or bear the logic of ableism. #HealthCommunism #DeathPanel #DisabilityJustice #MassDisablingEvent #ComradeDefense
I get it. She's not saying physical fitness is bad, but that using physical fitness as a measure of worth is giving into fashy games, because it undermines radical inclusivity that includes disabled people, and their value to a revolution.

This is why the Black Panthers emphasized education and reading. I think some people genuinely do not understand them and instead of trying to understand them, they are mad at the fact that they cannot understand and are calling it "too academic" when it's actually in plain language.

The inclusion of Palestinian disability is really important here. So many socialists have this idea that "during a revolution" we need to have "fitness" to overcome the fascists violently. When in reality, the physical violence currently happens *to* us. The greatest weapon Palestine has is their words and storytelling. Yes, there's strategic physical and violent resistance. But that cannot be uncoupled from all other forms of resistance. And, yes, disabled people in Palestine also fight, physically. Sinwar! With a single arm, dying, continued his fight. Daily, friends struggle to eat and obtain insulin in Palestine. And for those who have suffered starvation, increasing body fat storage is a very common result of being depleted of nutrients, often resulting in what would otherwise be seen by the gym bros simply as "obesity" because they are allergic to nuance and examining their own perceptions. We're more likely to be starved by the fascists than get to engage in hand to hand combat. In that case, those of us whose bodies can sustain fat storage are actually more "fit" to survive. We have to learn to see bodies with the same reflexive materialist lens that we do class struggles and all things.

I really appreciated her specific examples, it is eye opening. It's a great critique of stupid swoletariat stuff. One thing that pops out at me: I'm motivated to look into how those figures identified with/spoke about their disabilities, did they identify as "disabled ppl" and so on.

Everyone who thinks she's wrong, stop saying you're not defending eugenics and just admit that you believe in eugenics. Jesus Christ.

Remember the Bolsheviks revolted with a bunch of starved overworked illiterate peasants, there is no individualism in revolution and there is no body designed for it. We are all revolutionaries

I believe we should want to be 'fitter' than the fascists, but not in the macho "exercise and tactical training" sense - we want to be better at surviving than them. Which often means providing community care and support, adapting better to our own unique circumstances, organizing more efficiently, etc

as a disabled person who is a leftist, hearing them talk about all of these incredible figures who also had disabilities, and are still figures who I greatly admire. it made me emotional this morning. i hate that their words are being purposefully misconstrued by reactionary leftists.

Disabled people have been screaming this and it’s only gotten worse. Leftists will say they have tism and see RFK go after autism and still won’t see how this is all connected. Love and solidarity comrades!! 💗 If you have never been inspired by disability activists, there’s plenty to watch and read! Be curious!

Another important point of context that people are missing is that this is not “messaging” or “persuasion.” This is an academic speaking during a panel discussion at a socialist conference. She is using precise and careful wording to investigate a complex topic, and she is doing it very well.

This is what people are upset about? They think this person is taking a jab at fitness and not the context with which fitness it used to continue oppressive thinking and policy?

Fayad :
The outrage to this is the same outrage found time and time again when fat people, or disabled people decide to stop hating themselves as is expected of them. This idea of 'fitness' people have is definitely poisoned by capitalism and fascist ideology, and it has never had anything to do with health.
Point aside, to what's actually being said in the video, good health is not a requirement to revolutionary action.
