It's really disgusting. The kids have no rec centers no community centers no free ymca memberships no libraries, the parks keep being "developed" into buildings, and the malls have anti-teen curfews. The kids have absolutely nowhere to go, and before someone says "go home", do people think every kid comes from a stable household or neighborhood where it's safe to be home??

I think the media is sensationalizing black children being unruly and disruptive (which teens do because … they’re teens) to justify increased police presence and mass state surveillance

The intro to this convo 🙂↕️🤏🏾 literally everybody is so exhausted with the youth but what have yall done to uplift them and set the tone as elders... as a community we need to hold ourselves & the city officials accountable while holding space for the youth to express their frustrations too

I just hate seeing people say we don’t have the programming. We do!! It’s called OST (out of school time). Google it and put your address into the map and it’ll show the things available in the area. When I was younger, my mom did the work to make sure my siblings and I were occupied. There are things out there, the adults in their lives need to do better.

Race aside, I do wish the kiddos were more kiddo like. All of them don’t want to do kid things because of social media

See I can agree with what you’re saying because you’re being honest about what is going on while acknowledging how the way we speak on what is going on is rooted in and can further anti blackness

Our children deserve safe spaces to unwind after school, and that takes money. Instead of complaining, we could come together and fight for our youth. Make our city provide spaces for youth beyond 12 years old.

If they’re committing crimes, I’m not opposed to them being locked up, this regardless of race and whatever else . I do think that language is important tho. Like should yall be calling them YNs?? Should yall be generalizing all of them? And so on. But also, idk about over policing . I also don’t know about lack of resources. Yes , funding from some services are getting cut, which is unfair. But a big part of that is tied into attendance. We aren’t being awarded the same grants because kids aren’t showing up

Where is Cheryll’s Youth Engagement Officer?! Huh? Did she replace her position? Was anything done in the position? The researchers hired for city planning what did that report in those binders at City Hall!

The kids don’t have nowhere to go without being policed for it. They doing anything and internet culture is ramping up their antics. It’s sad rlly just if they had somewhere to hang out and be themselves, clip farming and clout chasing would be way less dangerous for them. I pray our youth sees the resources they need to say out of trouble fr. Everyday it’s a new kid doing way too much because they are bored and unoccupied. These kids don’t know any else but resistance against having a lil fun in a big group. What they doing isn’t right but how many other options do they have to stay entertained when the opportunity to do something they think other kids gonna laugh at, they gonna get harassed regardless

I’m so disappointed in the lack of care adults have for kids here. These are older black adults applauding police brutality on children and wonder why these kids act the way they do. Nobody is protecting them
